These terms and conditions govern every order placed with George Mirza through george-mirza.com, by email or by WhatsApp. Please read them before you order. By placing an order you agree to them, together with our Privacy Policy and our Shipping & Returns page, which forms part of these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Who we are
George Mirza is a trading name of George Mirza Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17534492, with its registered office at 177-179 Washway Road, Sale, Manchester, M33 4AH, United Kingdom. We design solid-brass door and cabinet hardware and supply it to customers in the United Kingdom, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Canada from our offices in the UK and Dubai.
You can reach us at enquiries@george-mirza.com, or on WhatsApp, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm UK time. We do not operate a telephone line; everything about an order is better in writing.
Words we use
- "We", "us" and "our" mean George Mirza, the trading name described above.
- "You" and "your" mean the person or business placing the order.
- "Consumer" means an individual buying wholly or mainly for purposes outside their trade, business or profession. "Trade customer" means anyone else, including interior designers, architects, contractors and developers buying in the course of business.
- "Range pieces" are the designs shown on our website in the finishes and sizes offered there. "Bespoke pieces" are made to your drawing, specification, custom length, custom finish or as a matched suite outside the standard options.
- "Order Confirmation" is the email we send to accept your order. "Contract" means the agreement between us for the pieces described in it.
Our products
- Every piece is made to order in the finish and size you choose. Nothing is held in stock.
- Our hardware is made from solid brass and finished by hand. Hand finishing produces slight variation in tone and texture between pieces and between batches; this is the nature of the material, not a defect. Living finishes such as antique brass and bronze are designed to develop a patina with use.
- Photographs and renders on the website are a guide to form and finish. Screens show colour differently, which is why we offer colour samples at £10 each, up to four per order. Samples are yours to keep for up to 60 days. Return them to us within that time, at your own cost and in reasonable condition, and the amount you paid for the returned samples is credited to you as a single-use discount code (sent with your dispatch email and activated on the day the samples reach us). The code can be used on any order of £100 or more within six months of activation, together with any other discount code. It is tied to the email address used for the sample order and is not refundable in cash. Samples that are not returned are not credited. We strongly recommend ordering samples before committing to a finish.
- Dimensions, spindle sizes and door-thickness ranges are given on each product page and in the specification sheet. It is your responsibility to check that a piece suits your door, drawer or cabinet before ordering, and to have it fitted by a competent person.
- We may make minor changes to a design or specification to reflect improvements in materials or methods, provided they do not materially affect the look or performance of the piece.
Prices and payment
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling and include UK VAT at the current rate. Where you choose to shop in euros, dirhams, US dollars or Canadian dollars, prices exclude UK VAT, are converted at the rate in force when the page loads, and the amount charged is the amount shown at checkout.
- UK delivery is free on orders over £250; for orders under £250 the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay. Delivery to Germany, France, the UAE, the United States and Canada is charged at the carrier's price, calculated at checkout by destination and weight and shown before you pay. Orders to Germany, France, the UAE, the United States and Canada are delivered duty paid: the import duty and local taxes due for your address are calculated and charged at checkout, and we settle them with the carrier, so nothing further is payable on delivery. If the duty or tax we collect turns out to be less than the amount actually charged by customs, we bear the difference.
- We take care to price correctly, but if a piece is obviously mispriced we will contact you before dispatch to confirm the correct price or cancel the order and refund anything you have paid.
- Payment is taken in full at checkout by the card and payment methods offered there. Where Klarna is offered, it is subject to Klarna's own terms and eligibility (18+, UK residents, subject to status; late fees may apply).
- Deposits. If you would rather secure an order with a deposit, message us on WhatsApp. A deposit of 30% of the order value secures the pieces and places them in production; the balance is due before dispatch. We will invoice you for the balance when the order is ready. If the balance is not paid within 60 days of our invoice, we may treat the order as cancelled and retain the deposit to cover the material and production time committed to it.
- Holding orders. Once ready, we can hold a paid order for up to 60 days at no cost. Orders held for longer may incur a storage charge, which we will agree with you in writing beforehand.
- Promotional prices and discount codes apply only to new orders placed while the promotion runs, and cannot be applied retrospectively or combined unless we say otherwise.
Placing an order and our contract
- When you place an order you are making an offer to buy. We will acknowledge it by email, but a Contract is only formed when we send you an Order Confirmation. Until then we may decline an order for any reason, including unavailability of a finish, a pricing error or a problem with payment or delivery address.
- Please check your Order Confirmation carefully: finish, size, handing, quantity and delivery address. Tell us immediately if anything is wrong. Because pieces are made to order, we may not be able to change an order once production has begun.
- For your protection we may ask for additional verification before dispatching an order, and we may only deliver to an address we are able to verify against the payment method used.
- Range pieces are available to anyone of 18 or over. Trade customers may also open a trade account; see Trade customers below.
Lead times and delivery
- Range pieces typically take around eight weeks from order to delivery. Bespoke pieces take 12 to 17 weeks from an approved drawing. These are estimates based on our current production schedule and are not guaranteed dates, although we will keep you informed if anything changes.
- Please do not book a fitter or a joiner until your order has arrived and you have checked it. We are not responsible for the cost of trades booked in advance of delivery.
- Deliveries are tracked and require a signature. Where a delivery cannot be made because nobody is available and the carrier cannot rearrange it with you, the parcel is returned to us and we may charge the cost of sending it again.
- The pieces are your responsibility (the risk passes to you) from the moment they are delivered to the address you gave us. Ownership passes to you once we have received payment in full, including any delivery charges.
- Full details of destinations, costs and what to expect on the day are on our Shipping & Returns page.
Bespoke pieces
- We quote bespoke work from your drawings, photographs or brief. A quote is valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise.
- Production begins only once you have approved a technical drawing in writing. Approving the drawing confirms that the dimensions, finish, handing and quantities are correct; we make exactly what has been approved.
- Where the design calls for it we make one physical sample in your finish for sign-off before tooling is cut.
- Bespoke orders are secured with a deposit, which is not refundable once the drawing has been approved, because the drawing, sample and production time are committed to your piece from that point.
- Bespoke pieces are made to your specification and cannot be cancelled, returned or exchanged unless they are faulty or do not match the approved drawing. Changes requested after approval may be treated as a new order and quoted separately.
- If you supply a design, you confirm that you own it or have the right to use it, and that making it will not infringe anyone else's rights.
Changing or cancelling before dispatch
Tell us as soon as possible by email or WhatsApp if you want to change or cancel an order. If production of a range piece has not started we will change or cancel it and refund anything you have paid. If production has started, we will do what we can; where a change is not possible, your right to cancel after delivery (below) still applies to range pieces. Changes to your delivery address must reach us at least seven days before the agreed dispatch date.
Your right to cancel after delivery
- If you are a consumer, you have the right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 to cancel your order for range pieces for any reason up to 14 days after the day you receive them.
- To cancel, email enquiries@george-mirza.com within that period, quoting your order number. We will send you a return reference and the return address.
- You must send the pieces back within 14 days of telling us, at your own cost, using a tracked and insured service. They must be unused, unfitted, complete with all fixings and in their original packaging. You are responsible for them until they reach us.
- We will refund the price of the pieces, and the standard delivery charge if you return your whole order, within 14 days of receiving them back, or of receiving your proof of postage, whichever is earlier, using the payment method you used. We may reduce the refund to reflect any loss in value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to inspect the pieces.
- This right does not apply to bespoke pieces, to pieces made to your specification, to pieces that have been fitted or used, or to purchases made by trade customers.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect pieces
- Please check your delivery as soon as you can. If anything is damaged, faulty, missing or not what you ordered, email us within 14 days of delivery with your order number and photographs of the piece and its packaging.
- We will arrange collection or return at our cost and will repair or replace the piece, or refund you if we cannot do either within a reasonable time.
- If you are a consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights where goods are faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose, including the right to reject them within 30 days. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.
Our ten-year guarantee
- Every piece of George Mirza hardware carries a ten-year mechanical guarantee from the date of delivery. It covers defects in materials and workmanship that affect the mechanism or structure of the piece in normal domestic use: for example a lever that fails to return, a latch or spindle that breaks, or a casting that cracks.
- It does not cover: the natural ageing or patina of living finishes; wear, scratching or tarnishing of the finish through use, cleaning or the environment; damage caused by incorrect fitting, modification, misuse or accident; damage caused by abrasive or chemical cleaners (please follow our Care & Cleaning guide); corrosion in coastal, swimming-pool or industrial environments; or pieces used in commercial settings unless we have agreed this in writing.
- The guarantee applies to the original purchaser at the address of first installation and is not transferable.
- To claim, email enquiries@george-mirza.com with your order number, a description of the problem and photographs. We may ask you to return the piece for inspection. If the claim is accepted we will repair or replace the piece; where the finish is no longer available we will offer the closest current equivalent. The guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights and does not reduce them.
Trade customers
- Interior designers, architects, contractors and developers can apply for a trade account. Trade pricing, payment terms and any project-specific arrangements will be set out in writing when the account is opened and take precedence over these terms where they differ.
- Consumer cancellation rights do not apply to trade purchases. Range pieces ordered by trade customers may be returned only with our written agreement, in unused condition and original packaging, and may be subject to a restocking charge. Bespoke pieces cannot be returned.
- Trade customers are responsible for checking specifications and quantities against their schedules before approving an order.
Our responsibility to you
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking this Contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when the Contract was made.
- We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude.
- We are not responsible for the cost of fitting, removing or refitting hardware, for trades booked before delivery, or for any loss of profit, business or opportunity where you are buying in the course of a business. Our total liability to a trade customer under a Contract is limited to the price paid for the pieces concerned.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including carrier failures, customs delays, strikes, extreme weather or shortages of materials. We will tell you as soon as we can and will do what we reasonably can to reduce the delay. If the delay is substantial you may cancel the affected order and we will refund anything you have paid for pieces that have not been delivered.
Designs and intellectual property
The George Mirza name, our designs, drawings, photographs, renders and the content of this website belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, reproduce or manufacture our designs, or use our images, without our written permission. Technical drawings prepared for a bespoke order remain our property unless we agree otherwise in writing, although you are free to use them to have the pieces fitted and maintained.
Your information and how we communicate
We use the information you give us to fulfil your order and to keep in touch about it, as described in our Privacy Policy. By contacting us on WhatsApp you agree that we may reply there about your order. We will only send you marketing if you have asked for it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you place your order applies to that order. The date at the top of this page tells you when it was last changed.
General
- These terms, your Order Confirmation and the pages they link to are the whole agreement between us for your order.
- If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
- If we delay in enforcing any part of these terms, we can still enforce it later.
- The Contract is between you and us; nobody else has any rights under it.
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that consumers resident elsewhere in the UK, in Germany, France, the UAE, the United States or Canada may also rely on the mandatory consumer protections of their own country and bring proceedings in their own courts.
- If you have a complaint, please contact us first at enquiries@george-mirza.com; we would always rather put something right than argue about it.
